My name's Alison but for reasons too long to go into I'm known as Cockney Blonde or CB for short. I've been rubber stamping for several years but now spend most of my time either knitting or crocheting. However, with the advent of a New Year I have bitten the bullet and am tackling my usually hated pastime of sewing. I've even bought 'Sewing for Dummies' to guide me on my way. I've been with my hubby Dave for 24 years and between us we have 4 kids and 5 grandkids. We also have 2 cats and a dog, the latter features as my 'photo' image. I used to be able to blog daily but these days I struggle to blog weekly. Hopefully now we are settled into our new home in the country, I can get back to a daily (well almost) update from the room I now have to share with hubby. No more personal crafting space for me!!! Thanks to all the blogs and sites I follow for all your brilliant inspiration, and thank you to everyone who finds the time to comment on my blog.

Quixotic Challenge - Flutterby




Okey Dokey, this was a slog. Not because it was particularly difficult or because it was an awkward subject, but because it was the day after the night before and several empty bottles of wine!!!!!!!


I knew I wanted to make a Side Step card for my friend's daughter's 21st and butterflies was just perfect especially when I found a cat with wings thanks to Lisa's Altered Art http://www.lisasalteredart.com/
I've dabbled with some templates for the Side Step card already but really liked this design featured by Bev Rochester on the Whiff of Joy blog http://whiffofjoy.blogspot.com/search/label/Special%20Cardshapes
I found her template quite easy to follow using an A4 piece of white cardstock.
Papers used were from K & Co Sparkly Sweet 6 x 6 pad, and some pale blue glossy cardstock.
The text was stamped in Stazon and the faux stitching was done using a CD writing pen.
Both the images are from Lisa's Altered Arts.
The large butterfly (essential for the challenge) - PaperArtsy Tops & Tails 5 - was stamped twice onto the K & Co papers and then decoupaged leaving some movement to the wings.
The numbers are chipboard and coloured with Adirondack dabbers in Willow and Aqua, and edged with Marvy Brush Marker in Lt. Blue.
The 2 corners above the girl image are also chipboard, coloured with Adirondack dabbers in Espresso and Aqua and edged with the Marvy again.
Finally 2 of the brads in the centre of the flowers were coloured with Copic Ciao BG05 - Holiday Blue, to give the shade I wanted.

    Hi Lynne, a side step card is one that variegated folds to create an illusion of depth (I think). If you go to the link above for Bev Rochester you'll find a tutorial and template. Give it a whirl, they're brill, x
